real wedding: fairytale of new york {catherine & martin}

Morning lovely readers :)

Christmas and New Year Celebrations may already seem like a distant dream (can you believe it’s already the middle of January?), but for couples who chose to get married over the festive season I am sure that it is still very fresh in their minds!  The idea of a Christmas wedding is super romantic, cosy venues, festive decoration and twinkling fairylights, and the one city in the world that does Christmas best?  New York of course!  The city that never sleeps knows how to do Christmas in style, and today’s real wedding is a true Fairytale of New York.

Catherine and Martin celebrated their marriage in none other than Central Park, just a few days before Christmas in an intimate, family ceremony followed by a candlelit cruise along the Hudson River. On hand to capture their day, was destination wedding photographer Claire Morgan, with her unobtrusive and elegant style only adding to the romance of this magical wedding.

 New York is a favourite winter destination for Catherine and Martin, and it was on one trip there five years ago that Martin proposed on a bench in Central Park.   On the same day, and the same spot, five years later they exchanged vows in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in front of their closest friends and family.

Organising a wedding across the Atlantic wasn’t without it’s challenges, with the venue, reception and accommodation all being booked over the internet with the bride and groom not seeing them until the day of the wedding!  New York is notorious for it’s harsh, cold winters and there was always a chance their plans for an outdoor ceremony would be ruined by rain (or snow!) or that the river may freeze over preventing their planned reception cruise.

On the day, the weather was perfect, and with the bride dressed in a beautiful bespoke dress and fur shrug made buy her mother, they said ‘I Do’ overlooking the Manhattan skyline.

They chose a warm colour scheme of ivory, plum and gold to create an elegant, enchanted fairytale theme.  The bridesmaids wore gold with beautiful fur stoles and cute handmuffs to keep out the winter chill, and the bride completed her princess look with a beautiful beaded gold tiara.

“To have all our immediate family there with us meant so much, and to join the two families together with our friends was something we will never forget. For me the moment that sticks out most is when I first saw Cath in her dress as she walked up the stairs to the ceremony. I’ll never forget that moment, especially as Cath’s mum made the dress, I was so looking forward to seeing her.

New York is and will always be special to us because of this trip. It really was the best week of our lives and we are already talking about all going back over again in 2015 for our 5 year anniversary!

Thank you Catherine and Martin for sharing your movie-worthy New York wedding day!
